Another OSL Wedding!

austin and court cut a cake- not the cake they ordered- but a cake

Austin and Courtney are two of my bestest friends from High School. They have been together for 9 1/2 years and to my knowledge they only broke up once for like 12 hours. They have been through a lot in their relationship- their wedding tried them too- but two people could not be better suited for one another. I was so happy to be able to share their special day with them.

Me, Henry and Austin at the Church

I had a great time in Wisconsin. Henry had a bit of a rough go of it. He didn't sleep very well on the trip, thus Mike did not sleep very well. Mikey was nice enough to get up with Henry when he was waking up at 6am everyday. Henry had a few favorite people on the trip- Bingley, Kat, Matt, and Barb were his slams. Everytime he saw any of them he would get excited. It was really cute.

I met some new friends on the trip. Thanks goodness for Facebook so I can keep up with them!

I had a blast at the reception. I looooove dancing at weddings. I love dancing with my OSL friends. I would be happiest if here was an OSL dance party every weekend. Corey and missy made me love Miley Cyrus. I am a little upset about it but guilty pleasures are unavoidable. :)

Brice and Rose's Wedding Cake(s)

Brice, my co-worker and friend, and his lovely bride Rose were married last Tuesday. I made some cupcakes and a layer cake for their celebration party.

The cupcakes were vanilla cupcakes with strawberry "cream cheese" frosting, spice cupcakes with peach buttercream (recipe for the frosting was adapted from last months Southern Living), and chocolate cupcakes with chocolate almond buttercream. Delicious!

Above is their wedding cake. I believe the wedding theme was something to the effect of "tacky Texas". It is a mud cake with strawberries topped with a Day of the Dead bride and groom. I wanted to eat this real bad.

Preview of our "new" backyard

Mikey has been working hard in the backyard. I can't wait to show you pictures of the garden (it isn't quite done yet).

Here is Henry's play area. As previously mentioned, we bought the house and play climber off of craigs list for a good deal. Mike sectioned off the back corner of our yard and filled it with (a TON) of pea gravel. Ta-da!

This is pretty awesome. When we moved if the folks who buy the house don't have kids they can use it as a succulent garden.

We were really sad when we were in Wisconsin because there was a "thrift sale", as they call them there, that was selling all sorts of really cool outdoor toys. We wanted to buy them all for Tottie but you can't take plastic cars on the plane. Unfortunately.

15 minute soup

Dudes. This was the easiest soup ever. It only took like 15 minutes to make. That was thanks to Central Market, one of our local grocers. They sell soup and stir fry kits in their produce section- all different kinds. It was four dollars for the "pacific stir fry" kit, which is a lot less than I would have spent if I bought all of the ingredients.

The pacific stir fry kit consisted of about 4 cups of veggies: bok choy, snow peas, bell peppers, water chestnuts, baby corn, bean sprouts, shitake mushrooms, and cilantro.

I cooked the veggies in the Hot and Sour Soup broth from Veganomicon:
4 cups vegetable broth
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup rice vinegar
3 teaspoons hot asian chili oil (I added this after I took out veggies for Henry)
1/2 tsp. sesame oil

Then I added 1 pound diced extra firm tofu and let it simmer for a few minutes longer.

DONE and DONE.

Since Henry is into feeding himself and soup is really messy when you don't have spoon control, here is what henry's plate looked like:
